Creamy, Spiced & Refreshing
Some meals simply feel incomplete without a bowl of chilled raita. This masala boondi raita combines creamy yoghurt with savoury boondi, roasted cumin, a hint of red chilli, and fresh coriander.
Serve it with pulao, biryani, parathas, or a simple dal-and-rice meal. It is quick to prepare and brings a lovely contrast to spicy Indian dishes.
Ingredients
- 2 cups plain yoghurt (curd)
- 1/2 cup masala boondi
- 1/2 teaspoon roasted cumin powder
- 1/4 teaspoon red chilli powder
- Black salt or regular salt, to taste
- 2–4 tablespoons water, as needed
- Fresh coriander or mint, chopped
Method
- Whisk the yoghurt until smooth.
- Add roasted cumin powder, red chilli powder, salt, and a little water if needed.
- Fold in the masala boondi. For a softer texture, allow it to rest for 5 minutes; for more crunch, add it just before serving.
- Garnish with coriander or mint.
- Chill briefly and serve alongside your favourite Indian meal.
Tips for Delicious Raita
- Use fresh yoghurt for the best flavour.
- Taste before adding salt because masala boondi may already be seasoned.
- Add the boondi according to your preferred texture.
Serving idea: Sprinkle a little extra roasted cumin powder over the top just before serving.
